Stanley Nwabali, the goalie for the Super Eagles, was given a chieftaincy title on Sunday by Nzeobi Amida, the traditional ruler of the Mgbede community in Egbema Kingdom, Rivers State.

The goalie, Ugo Egbema, also known as “The Pride of Egbema Kingdom,” was given this title after his performance at the recently finished 2023 African Cup of Nations in Cote D’Ivoire, according to the Nigerian sports website BSN.

BSN reports that Amuda, who is also the chairman ONELGA Council of Chiefs, said the title conferred on Nwabali is in recognition of the honour the goalkeeper brought to Egbema Kingdom and ONELGA following his performance for the Super Eagles.

The Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, is reported to have given Nwabali, a Rivers native, N20 million on Friday in addition to the title of Distinguished Service Star of Rivers State.

In addition, President Bola Tinubu presented the Member of the Order of the Niger national award to every member and official of the Nigerian Super Eagles on Tuesday in recognition of their success in winning the silver medal in the recently completed AFCON.
