The Federal Government of Nigeria has called for the de-escalation of hostilities between Israel and Hamas, gunmen from the Palestinian group.
The Government of Nigeria made this call in a press statement issued through the office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Am. Yusuf Tuggar on Saturday.
The gunmen from the Palestinian group, Hamas had at the early hour of Saturday infiltrated several Israeli towns and launched an unprecedented attack, leaving over 200 people death with more than 1000 wounded and escaping with large number of hostages.
It was also reported that over 230 people were killed in the retaliatory Israeli airstrikes in Gaza.
Nigeria however expressed deep concerned about the outbreak of hostilities between Israel and Hamas, stating that the cycle of violence and retaliation that the current escalation has assumed, only serves to perpetuate an unending cycle of pain and suffering for the civilian population, that bear the brunt of every conflict.
The Federal Government of Nigeria, therefore, calls on both sides to exercise restraint, prioritize the safety of civilians and give room for humanitarian considerations.
“We are therefore calling for a peaceful resolution of the conflict through dialogue”, it stated.
