The Lagos State Government has declared that it is illegal for pedestrians to cross state-owned main roadways and that those who do so would be detained and prosecuted.

On Sunday, Tokunbo Wahab, the state commissioner for environment and water resources, revealed this on his X account.

Wahab said that state Environmental Safety Corps officers, also known as Kick Against Indiscipline, along with representatives from other agencies, have been directed to implement this order right now.

“In Lagos State, crossing the highway is an offense,” he added. Law enforcement officers, including the #LAGESCOfficial (KAI) Marshall and others, have been instructed by the Lagos State Government to apprehend anyone who are crossing the highway and bring them before the court quickly.

The commissioner also encouraged locals to utilize pedestrian bridges.

“Please use the pedestrian bridges across the state,” he stated in his letter.

It was reported in September 2023 that a large number of people in Lagos and Ogun States were endangering their lives by running across highways and daring oncoming cars. The pedestrian bridges were placed in strategic locations.
