The governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has pledged the assistance of the state government to Wigwe University.
After Herbert Wigwe, the late CEO of Access Holdings Plc, was laid to rest in Isiokpo, Ikwerre Local Government Area, Rivers State, on Saturday, Fubara made this revelation.
Along with his spouse Doreen and son Chizzy, Wigwe perished in a helicopter crash in California, close to the Nevada border in the United States.
Abimbola Ogunbanjo, the chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc, was also a participant in the catastrophe.
The governor said, “I want to say our brother has finished his work, though short. We, as a government, will do everything with the Wigwe Foundation to immortalise one thing.
“It is not the bank, the bank might have a new identity, a new boss to run it, other ventures will also have their names; but one thing that has his name is Wigwe University.
“We will do everything within our power to make sure the dream will continue to live just as he has planned it.”
Fubara asked the mourners why they continued pursuing materialistic goals and emphasized the importance of making a difference in people’s lives as opposed to vying for dominance.
This one relates to the political class; what is the purpose of these conflicts? What’s the point of wanting to kill and bury people?
This man, who was not a politician, amassed wealth via our investments, controlled the political classes, and had the world in his palm financially. However, even with such immense power, he was unable to manage life in the modern day. Is it insufficient to inquire as to why we are having difficulties? “Why aren’t we having an effect on our people’s lives?” he said.
Kayode Fayemi, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, Bukola Saraki, Aliko Dangote, Sanusi Lamido, Alex Otti, Dapo Abiodun, and Babajide Sawno-Olu are among the dignitaries in attendance at the funeral service.
Among the luminaries in attendance are Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Segun Agbaje, and James Ibori, CEO of GTCO Holdings.
