The factional Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Edision Ehie has resigned his position as the Speaker and member of the Assembly representing Ahaoda East Constituency 2.

Ehie in his letter of resignation dated December 29, 2023 and addressed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) did not state the reason for his resignation but thanked his colleagues in the Assembly for good working relationship and his constituency for supporting him throughout his stay in the Assembly.

Ehie was the majority leader of the 10th Rivers State House of Assembly until he was suspended by the House following the failed impeachment process initiated against governor Similanayi Fubara.

Soon after his suspension Ehie declared himself as the factional speaker of the Assembly with four members on his side.

Governor Similanayi Fubara had presented the State’s 2024 appropiration bill to four members of the Assembly led by Ehie, his loyalist.

News Agency reports that Ehie’s resignation may not be unconnected to the eight-point resolution reached with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during a recent peace meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Recall that part of the resolution reached during the meeting between the President, Fubara, his predecessor and Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike and other stakeholders was that Ehie should make way for pro-Wike Speaker, Martins Amaehwule.
