A group, Crusade for Greater Nigeria on Poverty Eradication and Social Justice has called on the chairmen of the six area councils of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to support the minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike’s infrastructure development drive.
President/founder of the group, Engr Prosper Okafor, who made the call at the weekend, noted that the recent flag-off of road construction projects and the promise for additional ones by Wike shows the commitment of President Bola Tinubu through the minister to change the narrative in the territory.
Okafor encouraged the six area council chairmen to provide measures that would see to successful completion of the projects, adding that Wike’s approach to issues is an indication that the nation’s capital under his watch will be different, if he is given the necessary support and encouragement.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the group urged the chairmen, residents and other stakeholders to always play their roles in protecting the multiple projects embarked upon by the minister.
Okafor said, irrespective of religious, political and ethnic groups, the well-being of Abuja residents should be paramount to everyone, noting that since the creation of the FCT no serious attention in infrastructure development has been given to people at the rural level, adding, however, that few days of Wike in office, has proven that better things are coming for all the communities.
He said the residents in the past thought they were forgotten, noting that the current administration’s steps had renewed the hope of residents in the political office holders.
The statement read’ “FCT Six Area Councils chairmen should support the minister of FCT Nyesom Wike to succeed his infrastructure drive. All the road projects are sited in rural areas, it is the duty of the people to ensure that the contractor and workers do not have obstacles.
“It is an opportunity that Abuja people must take serious irrespective of political, religious and ethnic affiliations.
“Wike is known as Mr project, his record in Rivers state, when he was the Governor, in area of projects is very clear, which is an indication that good things will happen in Abuja especially at rural levels s. It is time for the stakeholders to look beyond sentiment and work for the good of their people”
