Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, the Minister of State for Environment, has advocated for the use of environment friendly vehicles like electric and compressed natural gas vehicles to reduce emissions and achieve cleaner energy.

This is as the Minister attributed emission from vehicles as one of the major challenges to securing a sustainable environment.

Salako stated this on Thursday while playing host to delegation from the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), FCT Sector Command led by the Sector Commandant, Corp Commander Chorrie Isah Muta’a in Abuja.

The Minister in a statement signed by the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Mr. Ibrahim Haruna, advised that vehicles must be in good working condition in order to maintain minimal level of emission.

While charged the Commission to double its effort in the creation of awareness, educating and cautioning motorists accordingly, the Minister assured of the Ministry’s commitment to collaborate with the commission to ensure safety on the roads by ensuring timely dissemination on bad weather conditions which may have adverse effects on motorists.

Earlier, the Sector Commandant, Federal Road Safety Commission, FCT Sector Command, Mr. Chorrie Isah Muta’a, said the visit to the ministry was important for effective collaboration and emphasizing that environmental issues contributes greatly to the organization’s challenges.

Muta’a said in other to achieve it mandate, there’s need for FRSC to collaboration with Ministry of Environment and its agencies in fostering disseminating of right information and educating road users and the general public on weather conditions, flood areas.

He said: “The three (3), common causes of accidents on our road includes human, environmental and mechanical factors. The environmental factor is one of the causes of road accidents which necessitated the Commission to partner with the Ministry and its Agencies for achieving the mandate of the commission”.
